Trained with the Best
I trained under some of the top lawyers in Melbourne. Michael O'Bryan at Minter Ellison (now Justice O'Bryan of the Federal Court) was the most formative. I also vividly recall Steven Stern at Freehills. I can still hear his lessons guiding me.
Going out on my own
After 20 years in top tier law firms, I took the pretty scary decision of setting up my own practice. That was in 2010. I managed to take all my clients at the time, bar one. It would not have been possible, though, without the support of Apotex, the leading generic pharma distributor in the country.
The Client Experience is central to what I want to achieve, and has been at the core of this Firm's success.
This culminated in me being awarded the 2019 International Client Choice Award for Projects & Procurement for Australia. This happened in an very exciting awards ceremony in Westminster, London, in February 2019.
This is a photograph from that Dinner, featuring me with winners in the same category from Ireland, England and the Netherlands.

Becoming the trusted advisor to highly effective and successful business people has been my greatest professional satisfaction. I have been lucky enough to develop a number of long term professional relationships with clients, many based on a personal connection with their Managing Directors. These include TechForce, SM Brands (FILA Australia) and, most particularly, Apotex, Australia's leading generic pharmaceutical company. I was fully embedded in the senior management of he company, providing integral guidance for decision making. I am proud to say that last from 2006 to its take over in 2019.
There's more to life ...
There's a lot more to me that the lawyer that is looking to help. There's my family, first and foremost. Home is important. The Arts are central to me as a person. And, then, three's footy. Being at the 2000 AFL Grand Final was catharsis. That tells you my football club.
This photo is of our most favourite place on Earth ... Johanna Beach, where we've holidayed since 1994.
My abiding passions include the music of Richard Wagner, the plays of William Shakespeare and the novels of Anthony Trollope.
But these are the high points of my love for the Arts. My wife and I share share the theatre and the Bombers, of course. In pre-COVID life, we were at the Melbourne Theatre Company performances at least once a month, not to mention the wonderful Bell Shakespeare Company and Theatreworks in St Kilda.
This has led to the Firm sponsoring OPera Australia's productions of Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen in 2013, 2016 and now 2021, in addition to the performance of Parsifal in 2018 with the best tenor in the world, Jonas Kaufmann, who you can see with me and my friend, taken at the sponsor's dinner after the first performance.
